Review EARTHLESS ‘Live In The Mojave Desert’

Earthless fans know about it, some others might have heard about it and now it’s manifested by a live alive album. The trio performed a live in the desert in October 2020, being the starting act for ‘Live in the Mojave Desert’ series that included five bands in four days. Earthless started it off and next to the trio, Nebula, Spirit Mother, Mountain Tamer and Stoner have been the other four bands performing in the sand.

The undertaking wasn’t an easy one and quite some logistical challenges needed to be solved before this specific series of shows could take place “30 miles away from nowhere”. The result of time and effort can be now enjoyed on ‘Live in the Mojave Desert’, Earthless’ new live album.

Earthless’ live album includes three songs and each of them comes with an epic length. The trio put one song of each of the first three longplayers they released on the setlist, starting with ‘Violence From the Red Sea’, taken from their third album ‘From the Ages’, followed by ‘Sonic Prayer’ and an nearly 40 minutes version of ‘Lost in the Cold Sun’, the latter fitting perfectly into the context of chilly desert nights. Especially ‘Lost in the Cold Sun’ reflects a tremendous jam-session approach that hypnotizes listeners. With a strong psychedelic vibe, the trio works themselves up into a frenzy, an ecstatic vibe that fascinates and is a kind of musical Fata Morgana.

‘Live in the Mojave Desert’ is an unusual recording, captured at a location that is even more unusual. This release is the soundtrack for your own little colorful journey through time and space.
