CD review BLOOD INCANTATION ‘Hidden History of the Human Race’

Does anyone know why so many Death- and Black Metal bands use logos you hardly can read? The reason for this question is because Blood Incantation is one of them.

However, besides this little sidestep, there’s much more exciting stuff connected to this band.

Blood Incantation delivers a pretty cool Death Metal album, a fusion of various influences that lead to a nearly 40 minutes running time. If you ever wonder how Pink floyd would have sounded if they would have played Death Metal, ‘Inner Paths (To Outer Space)’ gives the answer. Now, the song might not reflect the entire musical genius of  the prog legend. The atmospheric start though Is impressive. By not just pushing the pedal to the metal the guys from Denver, Colorado created a multilayered instrumental that has class. With this song the quartet delivers excellent progressive music that challenges the frames of Death Metal.

The two song prior to it are ‘Slave Species of the Gods’ and ‘The Giza Power Plant’. The first one is a raging Death Metal song with intense growls and complex guitar work. The latter is more divers with tempo breaks being well-placed.

All the mentioned comes together at the end of this release. All three earlier songs are just a kind of prelude to what comes last. ‘Awakening From the Dream of Existence to the Multidimensional Nature of Our Reality (Mirror of the Soul)’ is an 18 minutes blast, an epos that shows that epical Death Metal songs doesn’t need to be boring. The quartet ignites a firework of riffs, growls and grooves. Like in a labyrinth you almost feel lost once in a while. Exactly when this happens the songs turns and heads towards a new direction. You just keep on going, or better said ‘listening’. With all the complexity the song itself never comes up short. For me, this epos is one the Death Metal highlights of the year.

‘Hidden History of the Human Race’ is a great album that adds another layer to Death Metal. Brutality and complexity supports each other in a great fashion, a treat for your ears and a challenge for your neck-muscles. This album is to recommend.
