It’s been a while since the gothic glam rock band The 69 Eyes released new material. Their latest studio album came out in 2023, followed by a couple of non-album singles.
With “I Survive,” the Finnish glam rockers unveil a new EP featuring four songs. The title track kicks off the release and is a great way to start off the album. Its dark rock vibes and great hooks make “I Survive” a superb tune. The chorus is so catchy that you can’t help but sing along, and it makes your dark heart beat faster.
With “Cold Sweat,” the Finns cover a Thin Lizzy classic and it is the great riff that starts the song. With a powerful groove and plenty of rock ‘n’ roll fire, the song is a great interpretation of the Thin Lizzy smash hit.
The other two songs on this release are good, but they can’t compete with the top half of this EP. “In the Misery” is a pulsating song, but the chorus doesn’t blossom immediately. The same is true for “Devil’s Rose.” The latter is the thumping finale of this release and belongs more to The 69 Eyes’ standard repertoire.
Overall, there are some highs and lows. “I Survive” is a good EP with two smashing anthems and two tunes that capture the band’s sound well.
