Review BOYS FROM HEAVEN “The Wanderer”

The Boys from Heaven were founded in 2017 and hail from Copenhagen, Denmark. They premiered in 2020 with an album called “The Great Discovery”, followed by a second studio album entitled “The Descendant”. A few weeks ago, the band released their latest album, “The Wanderer”, featuring ten new songs.

Boys From Heaven are fully committed to AOR, creating melodic rock anthems inspired by the early ’80s. The sound of the guys and their music has been influenced by bands like Toto and Journey. Carefully crafted melodies and dense keyboard sounds characterise songs like “I’ll Wait”, the album’s opener. The nostalgia is palpable in songs like “Hold Your Heart”, which evoke memories of a time when melodic rock was reaching its first peak.

While the album features some soulful moments, the rock factor never disappoints. The upbeat “Street Life” and the powerful “How Long” showcase a band that brings a modern dynamic to AOR. “Eileen” is another ear-pleaser, before the throbbing “I Will Never Let You Down” showcases the band’s talent for memorable hooks. The album has a calmer and soulful conclusion with “Till’ the Bitter End”.

“The Wanderer” is as colorful as the artwork suggests. The futuristic aspect of the cover art may not fully align with the retro-driven AOR sound, but that is irrelevant. With “The Wanderer”, the Danes deliver an album full of great melodies, crafted with a distinct sense for captivating songs. “The Wanderer” is a soul-pleasing album that entertains and spreads a light-hearted spirit, with the potential to turn gray days into colorful moments.
