Port Noir is a Swedish band founded in the greater Stockholm area in 2011. The band’s latest release is the eleven-track studio album entitled “The Dark We Keep”.
The trio plays a blend of alternative and progressive rock. Thunderous riffs provide the album with an added heaviness, resonating through tracks such as the pulse-pounding “Burst”. The title aptly describes the sound of this powerful anthem, even considering that melodic moments dominate this tune. The contrasting elements of dense outbursts and introverted melodies make the songs on “The Dark We Keep” a very dynamic journey.
The exciting discovery of these soundscapes begins with “Complicated”, one of the lead singles. The opener starts calmly, spreading a melancholic vibe. Despite having some layers, the song isn’t complicated for listeners to connect with. The melodic aspect provides access to this multifaceted musical endeavour.
It is a world of contrasts, making “The Dark We Keep” an entertaining album with plenty to discover. Roaring riffs alternate with calm, soulful moments, while unexpected moments of melodic finesse provide variety.
With “Ebb and Flow”, these contrasts are reflected in the song title itself, which takes a rather straightforward approach.
“My Destroyer” opens darkly and eerily, remaining in a gloomy soundscape until “Vargtimmen” provides a twist in the form of an introverted interlude that leads to the aforementioned “Burst”.
“The Dark We Keep” creates an atmosphere that demands attention. This album and these songs aren’t for absent-minded moments. Port Noir creates music that demands to be explored. It is the details and little twists that create the musical excitement of “The Dark We Keep”. Embrace the world of sound.
