Ayreon is the musical brainchild of the legendary Dutch musician Arjen Lucassen, who founded the symphonic metal project in 1995 with the album “The Final Experiment”. This marked the beginning of an impressive journey through symphonic rock and metal, with albums such as “The Source”, which entered the Top 10 of the German charts and topped the charts in Lucassen’s home country of The Netherlands.
Seeing Ayreon live is a rare opportunity indeed. It takes a lot of organisation to bring these epic symphonic albums and all the guests together on stage. However, Lucassen occasionally gathers a large number of guests to perform live, and Tilburg, in the south of The Netherlands, is the epicentre of these events. For a few days, the city almost shifts towards becoming Ayreon City, as it did in late summer 2025.
Ayreon played several sold-out shows in a row to celebrate 30 years of the project.
A total of 15,000 tickets were sold quickly, and since only a limited number of Ayreonauts could attend the live show, the new live album enables everyone to experience this breathtaking event.
Supported by a great production and thrilling visual effects, the cast of these shows is impressive too. Alongside Lucassen, the core line-up comprises Joost van den Broek (keyboards), Ed Warby (drums), Johan van Stratum (bass), Timo Somers (guitar), Ferry Duijsens (electric and acoustic guitar), Ben Mathot (violin), Jeroen Goossens (flute) and Jurriaan Westerveld (cello). The singers are equally important, bringing the songs and show to life. Damien Wilson, Anneke van Giersbergen and Tommy Karevik are just a few of the vocalists who make each song a jaw-dropping experience.
“30th Anniversary – An Amazing Flight Through Time” is an impressive summary of Ayreon’s three-decade creative journey. It is a stunning retrospective of the artistic endeavours of one of the most talented composers and musicians, Arjen Lucassen. In September 2025, he took everyone on an amazing musical flight through time. Timeless songs and powerful classics: that is what “30th Anniversary – An Amazing Flight Through Time” is all about. Enjoy a mind-blowing journey through time.
