When people think of Kiefer Sutherland, most immediately associate his name with films like “Flatliners” and hit TV series such as “24” or “Designated Survivor”. What fewer people realize is that Sutherland has also built a solid reputation as a musician. Those who are already fans of his music gathered tonight at Grosse Freiheit 36 in Hamburg.
Sutherland and his band are currently on tour, with this show marking the first of four concerts in Germany. Before the actor and musician takes the stage, the audience is introduced to singer-songwriter Colin Andrew, who joins the tour as the opening act.
Colin Andrew kicks off the evening right on time at 8:00 PM, playing to a venue that is already well filled. Although I wasn’t familiar with his work beforehand, his performance quickly makes a strong impression. His set is thoughtfully put together, and he smartly includes a rendition of “All My Loving” by The Beatles as the second song of the night. Judging by the enthusiastic reaction from fans in the front row—and, in fact, much of the crowd—it’s clear that some folks already know his music well.
Colin Andrew undoubtedly gained new fans this evening. Anyone who appreciates well-crafted singer-songwriter material should definitely keep his name in mind.

With “Grey”, his new studio album that will be released in May, Kiefer Sutherland puts new material front and center – and it’s a track from that record that opens the show. “Down Below,” taken from “Grey”, sets the tone for a setlist largely built around the new album.
Alongside his original songs, Sutherland also includes a few well-chosen covers to his set. The first arrives early in the night with “Only Happy When It Rains,” originally by Garbage. Later, he delivers “Can’t You See,” a classic by The Marshall Tucker Band. One song that might sound like a cover based on its title – but isn’t – is “See You On the Other Side,” not to be confused with the hit by Ozzy Osbourne. This track becomes one of the evening’s more emotional moments, showcasing a softer side of the performance. Throughout the night, the blend of rock, blues, and Americana, enhanced by the presence of steel guitar, creates a rich and engaging musical experience.
With “Love Will Bring You Home,” Sutherland introduces another new song, which is warmly received by the audience. “Friday Night” feels tailor-made for the setting in Hamburg and signals the approach of the finale, as the regular set concludes with “Agave.”
The band returns for an encore featuring “In the Air Tonight,” originally by Phil Collins, before closing the night with “Starlight.”
Fans of honest, down-to-earth rock and people got exactly what they came for. Over the course of roughly ninety minutes, Sutherland delivered a set of well-crafted songs that favored grit and authenticity over Hollywood glamour, trading polish for something far more grounded and real.
