Review DETRAKTOR ‘Full Body Stomp’

The hellhound on the artwork of the new Detraktor record seems to be quite hungry and you can say definitively that Boris, Rafael and Pable feel the same appetite when it comes to metal.

After the band delivered with ‘Grinder’ their debut album in 2019, the second record ‘Full Body Stomp’ is now in the house. In the meantime signed to Massacre Records, all signs point to full steam ahead, which is powerfully reflected by the nine songs. Hard groove metal roars out of the loudspeakers and hard riffs invite you for headbanging.

With the opener ‘Gorilla’ you immediately get an impression of what to expect from this album. Raging metal that knows no boundaries. Especially Pablo Cortéz, with his merciless drumming, pushes the trio forward and quickly reminds you of bands like Soulfly and Pro Pain.

Howling guitars and massive riffs are also what fuel songs like ‘Seven’ and ‘I am King’. The first mentioned track also comes with a few tempo changes, which appear to be necessary for the seven-minute tune.

If you listen to ‘Full Body Stomp’ in its entirety, however, a certain lengthiness spreads here and there. Too much of the same, even if it is great, is still too much and here is the small minus point of this disc. Detraktor strive for a certain versatility (‘Revenge’), but still remain too much trapped in their own formula. This leads to a one-dimensionality, which can be tiring in the long run.

Nevertheless, ‘Full Body Stomp’ has enough energy to enrich a proper headbanging party.
