Following Nordic Union another band/project with a Pretty Maids member is starting off. This time it’s Ken Hammer who has teamed up with H.E.R.O. singer Christoffer Stjerne to establish Taboo.
The Danes are the driving force of the band and for some songs they get support from well-known names like Mat Sinner, who plays bass on two tracks.
Musically, Taboo does not exactly start a revolution. Modern and contemporary held modern melodic rock/metal is what the project has to offer. With songs like ‘Bleeding’ the Danes let it roll especially in the chorus and Hammer’s guitar power comes to the fore. Overall, however, the very melodic, almost pop-like tracks, such as ‘Into the Sun’ prevail. The latter song is more AOR and the metal components disappear completely.
The closer ‘Daydream’ is more of a melodic rock song without edges and rough corners. Also with ‘Sensational’ the well-known soft/loud pattern is in the center, a pattern that runs through the entire album.
One can state that more could be expected from Taboo, considering the names of the leading members of the band. However, what was put on the tracklist of this debut album is predictable and partly uninspired modern rock that is quickly forgotten after one listen.
