War Ripper may not be known to everyone. Nevertheless, behind this band name stands a very well-known head. Joel Grind has with War Ripper another project at the start and this EP should be enjoyed with a from start to finish.
‘Strength in Numbers’ is already the second release from War Ripper after a first EP ‘Hellstorm’ hit the shelves of record stores in 2007.
Since Grind’s calendar is certainly packed with appointments, it took a few years until there was some time left to devote to this wild project. Listening to the songs on ‘Strength in Numbers’, one realizes that the time was certainly well invested. Grind has recorded five furious and aggressive songs, music that always ranges between metal, punk and hardcore. Here, Grind does not rely on long and epic passages. The opposite is the case. With the exception of ‘Hit Reset’, all songs stay under the two minute mark. With just under three minutes of playing time, the final ‘Hit Reset’ has almost “overloaded” sound passages; at least in comparison to the other four songs on this EP.
‘Strength in Numbers’ is a strong EP that, with eight minutes, isn’t exactly overlong. Nevertheless, Grind manages with War Ripper to bundle the energy of the mentioned three genres. Those who can sit still while listening to this album will surely still have their ear plugs in their ears.
