Thrash metal from Brazil, that sound always promising. Sepultura was the spearhead of a thrash metal movement in Brazil and these days the generation is in the starting blocks. One of these bands is The Damnnation, hailing from Sāo Paulo.
The trio was founded in 2019 and consists of Renata Petrelli (vocals, guitar), Aline Dutchi (bass, backing vocals), and Luana Diniz (drums). After having released a first EP in 2020 the band started work on the full-length debut. ‚Way of Perdition‘ is the title of the debut album, a longplayer that is with 36 minutes running time not too long. Besides that, the record is an entertaining release with ten old-school metal songs.
The Damnnation don’t focus on the filigree detail. It’s the energy that fuels this longplayer, manifested through songs like the hard-hitting ‘No Hope Inside’ and the furious title track. The trio goes to work with sledgehammer power and at the same time adds nice little variations to their sound. Those are the spice which makes ‘Way of Perdition’ to an interesting and raw piece of metal. There is no question about the three-piece band being passionate about thrash metal and still, the final punch is lacking. It’s nice, listening to the songs while the final knock-out song or riff is not in sight.
The Damnnation’s debut album isn’t a revolutionary album. It is an old-school thrash metal release that is fun to listen to. Not more and certainly also not less.
