Review SEVENTH CRYSTAL ‘Delirium’

Seventh Crystal was originally planned as a solo project, driven by Kristian Fyhr, known from Perpetual Etude. Rather early in the songwriting process, Fyhr realized that a band approach would fit the songs much better, also with the consequence for him do focus on the role as a singer only.

That Sweden has quite some bands to the plate that through the would of melodic (hard) rock mature, is a know fact. Bands like H.E.A.T., One Desire and others belong to this “wave of Swedish melodic rock” that started to role a while ago. Seventh Crystal fits into this context very well, since the Fyhr and pals are also very much into melodic rock.

Always equipped with a certain base of hardness, it is melody and hook lines that make songs like ‘When We Were Young’ to some ear-candy. It doesn’t need more than one listen to connect to the songs such as the rocking ‘Time to Let Go’. Seventh Crystal offer a tasteful menu of melodic rock songs, all catchy rock anthems that also benefit from a powerful and vital sound.

‘Delirium’ is an album that neither disappoint nor create a huge wow. The eleven songs are rock solid, well-crafted and show their strength though a good production. Having said this means also, that the album doesn’t add a lot of new. But it is not always the mind-blowing new things that lead to satisfaction. Sometimes it is better to stick to the framework and at the same time move within the genre frame with prowess and expertise.
