Review MORBID BREATH ‘In the Hands of the Reaper’ – EP

There isn’t that much information available when it comes to Morbid Breath. Also the omniscient internet doesn’t provide a lot of insights when it comes to the band of Marcus Eriksson(b/v), Stefan Carrillo (g), Felix Klaesson (g) and David Gustafsson (d). What we can conclude is, that Morbid Breath is a Swedish band and what’s also in the known is the fact that the guys have a flaming passion for raw thrash metal that is deeply rooted in the early heydays of the ’80s.

Not only that the guys heard a lot of Slayer and Venom, it’s also bands like Kreator and Sodom that influenced the sound of the quartet. In a way, listening to ‘In the Hand of the Reaper’ feels like getting a demo tape in the good old days, featuring five songs with edges and fierce simplicity. There is no dull moment on this EP that clocks in at 21 minutes.

‘Death Trap’, the closer, is the by far longest track on this release and as the other tunes too, the roots of thrash metal are vibrant and dynamic. There is neither polishing nore senseless frills. These guys solely follow their musical instinct and passion, which leads to songs that spread a powerful and diabolic vibe right away. With the harsh vocals of frontman Marcus Eriksson each of the songs is embraced by a blackened vibe, a fact that helps the release to stand out. In case you like the sound of the earlier mentioned band, you should give this EP a chance.
