Oceans published their full-length debut ‘The Sun and the Cold‘ a bit more than a year ago and to keep the momentum rolling, the guys unleash with ‘We are Nøt Okay’ a next EP. With four songs, things are quite lucid and to the point.
Compared to the debut, that was a bit all over the place, the guys straightened their musical approach without losing any punch-ability. The title track kicks things off and with support of Caliban shouter Andy Dörner, the start into this EP becomes a massive one. The metalcore elements are very present, while the melodic sections with clean vocals get more space. Modern metal with aggressiveness is what this EP stands for, manifested by songs like the intensive ‘Everyone I Love is Broken’. Equipped with a dark soul vibe, the track is worth to give it a listen.
‘Voices’ is the a blast with really brutal outbreaks. Vocal leaning over towards growls while chorus is that sweet that it could cause tooth ache. ‘Voices’ is an interesting melange before ‘Shark Tooth’, with thundering guitars and a good groove, leaves its marks and adds a slightly different aspect to the mix.
‘We are Nøt Okay’ showcases a band that matures. I still have the idea that Oceans try to combine various influences and hereby sharpen their own identity. ‘We are Nøt Okay’ is actually pretty OK and kicks ass.
