CD review SEPTAGON ‘We Only Die Once’

Septagon is a metal band that has its homebase in Heilbronn, Germany. The quintet was founded in 2013 and released with ‘Deadhead Syndicate’ a first longplayer in 2016. After the sophomore record ‘Apocalyptic Rhymes’ hit the shelves a few years ago, it’s ‘We Only Die Once’ being the direction-giving third album.

Septagon, that’s Markus Becker (v), Markus Ullrich (g), Stef Binnig-Gollub (g), Alexander Palma (b) and drummer Daniel Buld. What the five guys have in common is for sure a passion for thrash metal with speed. Partly inspired by the Bay Area heroes the quintet crafted ten songs that made it on their third delivery. Next to the Bay Area riffs, ‘We Only Die Once’ includes a lot of Anthrax too, which is mainly due to the phrasing and voice of frontman Markus Becker. An example is the raging ‘The Rant’ while the smashing bassline of ‘Vendetta’ reminds of DD Verni from Overkill.

‘We Only Die Ones’ is a solid thrash metal album with heavy riffs, the right level of aggressiveness and a powerful groove, being the engine of this album. If you look for a solid thrash metal album without frills and compromises, this might be the record you should check out.
