LP review THE PINEAPPLE THIEF ‘The Soord Sessions Vol. 4’

If you strip down a song and it doesn’t lose any of its fascination, it is truly a masterpieces you’re listening to. Bruce Soord, mainman of The Pineapple Thief, went through such an exercise, prepare songs for acoustic streaming events earlier this year.

After having released the ‘Versions of the Truth’ album in September and in times of no live concerts, Soord started to give the idea of acoustic live streams some shape and form. Not being experienced in live streamed concerts, the musical mastermind started to dig deeper into the ‘how’, resulting in four digital sessions.

Overwhelmed by the positive responses and impressed by how many people joined the shows, the 4th session is now released as a vinyl album. With his looper pedal in place, allowing Soord to kind of jamming with himself, each of the eight songs of the session is an acoustic masterpiece that shows the beauty of acoustic music.

What makes perfection even more perfect is the human aspect and if you listen to the beginning of the great versions of ‘Demons’ you will understand what I’m talking about. Also ‘Versions of the Truth’ is a song that gains in intensity by reduction. The two songs are the representatives from The Pineapple Thief’s latest album, but also the other songs, all classics from the band, are a treat for ears, a retreat for mind and soul with ‘All This Will Be Yours’ being another piece of musical joy. It’s the beauty of simplicity in a world of complexity that makes this release so special.

‘The Soord Sessions Volume 4’ is an album that reflects the year 2020, a record that maybe would have never seen the light of day without having a year of pandemic and isolation. With its stripped-down approach, this record and of course the sessions showcase a time of change, reflection and moving on. ‘The Soord Sessions Volume 4’ contains excellent songs, musical brilliance, warmth and the ability to always approach things with a smile.
