CD review BUFFALO SUMMER 'Desolate Blue'

Buffalo Summer is a four-piece band, hailing from South Wales. The quartet is since one decade in business and has these days with ‘Desolate Blue’ their third album out in the record stores.

I have to admit that I missed the first two longplayers. The more I was positively surprised what got out of the speakers after having pressed the ‘Start’-button. I can ensure that ‘Desolate Blue’ is not desolate at all.

Soundwise Buffalo Summer is rooted in Hard Rock of the ’70s/’80s with bands Like Led Zeppelin, Free and Whitesnake being a strong source of inspiration.

The quartet uses these influences and connect them with a modern sound, leading to grooving and dynamic songs like ‘Hit the Ground Running’ and ‘Deep Water’. But also the calmer moments are heart-pounding ones. ‘Last to Know’ is such tune, starting acoustic and evolving to a solid rocking track that always keeps the melody in focus. Last but there is ‘Untouchable’, reminding me in parts of Alter Bridge, especially due to the vocals showing parallels with Myles Kennedy.

Buffalo Sumer releases with their third album a very solid Rock’n’Roll album. A retro vibe and well-crafted songs, performed with passion, are the main characteristics of a record that certainly will find some friends in the Rock community.
