CD review BLIND EGO ‘Preaching to the Choir’

RPWL guitarist Kalle Wallner is the driving force behind Blind Ego. While the ‘mothership’ focusses on Prog Rock the German guitarist lasers in with Blind Ego on a more Hard Rock based sound, still equipped with quite some musically finesse.

Over the period of 13 years the new longplayer ‘Preaching to the Choir’ marks the forth solo release from the creative mind from Freising, Germany, features nine songs being charged with pure energy. Not only, but also due to a rather stable line-up ‘Preaching to the Choir’ comes with a tight sound and a great level of density. I want to highlight in this context the title track. The songs has many twists and tempo changes. From the very rhythm-based verse up to the catchy chorus the track is for sure a well-chosen name-giver for the album as well as it is a musical treat with the potential of getting addicted to it.

‘Line in the Sand’ instead is much darker. Melodies are doubtless a main ingredient for this song too and it’s the heavier riffing the perfectly interacts with the more melodic section. It’s the contrast that creates the magic.

‘Preaching to the Choir’ is about just doing things and by that challenging your comfort zone in order to develop. Songs like the heavy opener ‘Massive’ reflect the approach very well. Bling Ego’s new longplayer is a mixture of Prog, Rock and Metal, a fusion that spreads fascination.
