(8/10) Entrails belong to the pioneers of Swedish Death Metal. The band appeared on the scene in the early ’90s, together with bands like Dismember and Entombed. After a 14 years long hiatus Entrails returned in 2008 and became since then a constant factor in oldschool Death Metal.
‘Rise of the Reaoper’ is newest strike from the North. Two years after having ignited a ‘World Inferno’ the new longplayer shows again the power of Entrails.
Build on song-ideas from the pre-Entrails days and fused with some new influences the album became a brachial one. Also line-up changes could stop Jimmy Lundqvist from working on ‘Rise of the Reaper’. Mixed and mastered by no less than Dan Swanö each of the 11 songs (+ intro and outro) stands for furious and raging Death Metal from Sweden. Smashers such as ‘From Whom the Head Rolls’ are deadly wreckballs with strong riffpower, evil growls and a pounding drum line.
Entrails latest musical onslaught belongs to the best ones Lundqvist released under the banner of Entrails. ‘Cathedral of Pain’, the closer, shows this very clearly. A seven minutes epos isn’t a usual endeavor for a Death Metal band. Entrails takes the challenge and created a terrific Death Metal monster. Slow and evil the song’s a musical maelstrom that pulls you towards the abyss.
Headbangers and Death Metal fans, check out this release. It’s worth it.
