CD review MICHAEL MONROE ‘One Man Gang’

(8/10) One of the best Hard Rock records this year has its roots in Scandinavia. Finland is the homebase of iconic frontman Michael Monroe, known from his successful days with Hanoi Rocks as well as known for numerous solo albums with great impact.

‘One Man Gang’ is Monroe’s new shot, a longplayer that represents the entire beauty of hard played Rock music, vitalized by a Punk vibe and Sleaze Rock glamour. ‘One Man Gang’ runs on all cylinders with the title track being a terrific opener. Fast and dirty, that’s what the first songs stands for, being a kick-start for the entire album. Another mean rocker is the fast-paced ‘Black Ties and Red Tapes’, music that’s made for live shows.

A songs that has been unveiled already is ‘Last Train to Tokyo’. Being kept in a more moderate pace the song’s an ode to Rock’n’roll with a chorus that reflects Monroe’s excellent sense for catchy melodies.

Each of the 12 songs on this release stands for the greatness of Rock with ‘Helsinki Shakedown’ being an excellent example for the ease of life and living. Listening to each of this dirty dozen of Rock songs is for sure not waste of time and it’s the extremely cool swinging ‘Wasted Years’ validating the mentioned.

Michael Monroe inhales Rock’n’Roll with every breath he takes. After all these years the iconic singer, frontman and entertainer is still hungry, with this new album being a next outlet. ‘One. An Army’ is a cool album that brings like into Scandinavian winter nights and not only those. Keep on rocking.
