Audrey Horne have been part of my musical world for quite some time now, and running into this band – whether at a live show, through a new album, or in an interview – is always a good time. These five musicians come across as genuinely likable, dedicated, and driven by a shared passion for ’70s-inspired hard rock. They’ve built a sound of their own over the years, with each album adding another layer to their musical identity.
Tonight, Audrey Horne roll into Hamburg for a show at Bahnhof Pauli, bringing songs from their latest album, Achilles, to the stage. Joining them on the road are Motorowl, who have the honors of kicking off the evening.
Motorowl
Motorowl hit the stage right on time at 8:00 p.m. with “The Night,” the intro from their latest album, before moving straight into “All Bells Ring.” It’s a strong opening to a 45-minute set that draws from across the band’s catalog.
Motorowl are more than just an opening act. The Thüringen-based band already has a solid fan base in Hamburg, and quite a few of those fans have made their way to Bahnhof Pauli. The mood in the room makes that clear from the start. With solid sound and lighting, the five-piece is in good shape and form, even though singer Max Hemmann suggests that not everything has gone according to plan today.
Their set moves effortlessly between atmospheric passages, wild retro-rock attacks, and bursts of energy with an almost punk edge. There’s plenty of variety without losing the band’s distinctive character.
By the end of the set, Motorowl have the crowd at Bahnhof Pauli thoroughly warmed up and on their side. The atmosphere is set and the audience is ready for the headliner.

Audrey Horne
After a relatively quick changeover, Thin Lizzy comes over the PA, followed by the intro from The Muppet Show. At that point, it’s clear: showtime.
Audrey Horne consistently deliver strong albums, and their latest release, Achilles, is a good example of that. But even better are the Norwegian quintet’s live shows – and tonight, they don’t disappoint.
It’s the album’s brilliant title track that kicks off an evening built around good vibes and a party atmosphere. Despite its slightly progressive edge, the opening song carries that unmistakable Audrey Horne spirit. And off we go.
It’s no secret that Toschie and Arve occasionally venture into the crowd, and during “Pretty Little Sunshine,” it happens again. The only thing limiting their range is the length of the microphone cable—and that cable is seriously long. Arve seems reluctant to leave the audience at all, but eventually makes his way back to the stage. The band’s commitment to getting close to their fans is also clear when a fan who has already attended the first four shows of the tour is invited onstage to play tambourine.
Every song on tonight’s setlist is a treat for the ears and practically begs to be sung along to. During tracks like “Insanity,” the crowd is more than happy to oblige. During “God Damn Beautiful,” Espen predictably takes over the microphone and doesn’t let a loose bass strap throw him off his game.
“Sail Away” brings a touch of romance to the encore, according to Toschie – and where better to perform a song like that than right in the middle of the crowd, surrounded by fans? “Redemption Blues” and “Waiting for the Night” then bring the night to a fitting close, leaving behind a show that was simply fun and a band that clearly loves being onstage.
Audrey Horne have delivered once again, turning what would normally be a rather dull Sunday night into an extended weekend party – with good music, good vibes, and a beer in hand.
Audrey Horne rocks.
