Zebrahead got their start in 1996 in La Habra, California, and have remained committed to punk rock ever since. After quickly gaining popularity, the band released a steady stream of albums, with their most recent full-length arriving in 2019 under the title Brain Invaders. This was followed by a series of EPs forming a four-release cycle, which now reaches its conclusion with 0.
Almost like a countdown, III, II and I were gradually released to the public. Now, 0 marks the latest chapter in this series and is available in record stores.
Zebrahead have recorded six new songs that reflect the refreshing punk rock approach the California band has been known for. While their roots are firmly planted in punk rock, the band has always incorporated a variety of influences into their sound. Rap and modern metal elements have become part of Zebrahead’s musical identity, and “I Know What U Did Last Summer” is a good example of this broader sonic range. These additional elements add some variety to the EP without taking away from the musical foundation the band has built over the years.
“Smoke Signals From My Couch” offers another example of the band’s diverse approach. The use of horns gives the song a ska-punk vibe, while the driving opener “Burn Burn Burn” brings the rebellious spirit of punk rock to the forefront. This continues with the fast-paced “A Perfect Life Is Such a Bore,” a song that makes standing still pretty much impossible.
With the hard-hitting “I Don’t Know How to Put This (But I’m Kinda Big Deal),” the EP reaches its conclusion and once again underlines Zebrahead’s position in melodic punk rock. The band continues to combine catchy hooks with energetic intensity, and that formula is very much alive on 0.
With this EP, Zebrahead once again show why they remain an important name in today’s punk rock scene. Driven by a rebellious heartbeat, the band delivers a fitting conclusion to their EP cycle – one that is energetic, melodic, and simply fun to listen to.
