Review SNOWY WHITE “The Finishing Touch”

Renowned guitarist Snowy White has built an impressive career through both his acclaimed solo work and his time with Thin Lizzy and Roger Waters. Although health issues forced him to retire from live performances in 2019, White continues to captivate fans of sophisticated blues rock with outstanding studio releases.

This June, he returns with The Finishing Touch, a brand-new studio album featuring ten fresh tracks, each showcasing his unmistakable touch and musical sensitivity. The record opens with the instrumental “Open Water,” a warm and beautifully expressive piece that immediately highlights White’s exceptional feel for melody. It’s a deeply moving introduction, offering a welcome moment of calm and reflection in today’s fast-paced world.

White lets his guitar do much of the talking, but his excellent vocals are equally effective. “Lost in the Blues” carries the gentle atmosphere of the opener into a laid-back groove, unfolding its charm effortlessly from the very first note.

Throughout The Finishing Touch, White delivers songs with remarkable emotional depth. “Three Long Years” is a perfect example, blending soulful passages with bursts of energy to create a compelling dynamic that feels both heartfelt and genuine.

The mood lightens with the swinging “Music All My Life,” before White returns to his blues-rock roots on the gritty and infectious “Whole Bunch of Nothing.”

“Minefield” and “Win Some Lose Some” continue the album’s smooth, easy-going flow, leading into the seven-minute title track. “The Finishing Touch” is a stunning centerpiece, filled with soulful melodies, passionate performances, and meticulous attention to detail. White’s singing Les Paul shines throughout, setting the stage perfectly for the closing number.

“The Blues Away” concludes the album on a deeply emotional note. It’s another beautifully crafted performance, and listening to it with your eyes closed is an almost meditative experience, offering a welcome sense of peace and tranquility.

The Finishing Touch is a beautiful collection of songs from a guitarist who has mastered the art of translating emotion into music. Snowy White remains one of the finest blues-rock musicians of his generation, and these songs speak directly to the heart.
