One thing is clear: L.A. Guns, whose legend began over four decades ago on the Sunset Strip, are among the most influential bands in the realm of glam, hard rock, and hairspray. Countless bands have modeled their sound and stage presence after them; to this day, they remain one of the central bands of a flamboyant, colorful hard rock scene that continues to attract fans across all generations.
But it’s equally clear that few bands have had such an eventful history as these veterans, who are currently touring the world as a quintet. Hardly any other band has undergone so many lineup changes; over the decades, several dozen musicians have come and gone. Even the two leaders of this visually and musically captivating group—guitarist Tracii Guns and singer Phil Lewis—left the band at times to join other groups. And this has been the case since the band’s inception in 1983: Tracii Guns left the band he had founded for the first time shortly after its formation to start a hard rock band called Guns N’ Roses with the band’s original singer, a certain Axl Rose—only to return to his main band shortly thereafter.
