Airbourne have just started their European tour, with a support band called Avalanche joining them for some of the shows. I hadn’t heard of these guys before, but that changed when I received a copy of their debut album. “Armed to the Teeth” is the title of this blistering rock album, which was recorded by a band that is the perfect opening act for Airbourne.
“Armed to the Teeth” is a 13-track album that is characterised by high-energy rock music. The opener, “On the Bags Again”, is an instant energiser. No matter how good or bad your day has been, the moment the first riff of “On the Bags Again” starts, you’re in party mode. Listening to these songs is pure fun, and you can feel the passion that the band put into each note of these brilliant rock songs.
Hailing from Australia, Avalanche clearly cite the mighty AC/DC and Airbourne as influences, and the Sydney-based four-piece have clearly taken inspiration from these bands. Songs like the title track reveal this connection. However, the energy and dedication embedded in each song is enormous.
The quartet don’t compromise, resulting in up-tempo rockers like “Going for Broke” and “The Hand That Feeds”. The songs on “Armed to the Teeth” embody the rebellious spirit of rock ‘n’ roll. This is music that works best in a beer-soaked club where sweat runs down the walls.
Steven and Veronica Campbell are the driving force behind Avalanche. Together with the hard-working rhythm section of Blake Poulton and Bon Lowe, Avalanche will blow your mind. This band never takes its foot off the gas, resulting in heavily pounding boogie rockers like “Blondie”. The essence of hard rock and an infectious groove captivate you from start to finish.
“Kick Your Heels Back” is another high-voltage moment on “Armed to the Teeth” before “Hells Getting Hotter With You” is the next blast of the album, and then we slowly but surely approach the end. And, of course, it isn’t a quiet one. “Bottle of Sin” is an explosive finale that spreads pure joy and energy. “Armed to the Teeth” is a rebellious and rousing debut album from a band hungry for rock ‘n’ roll. The passion for filthy rock music is palpable in every song and note. These guys don’t just play rock ‘n’ roll — they live it, and it’ll be a delight to see them live on their upcoming tour with Airbourne. Get the party started!
