Review STARLIT PYRE ‘Veins of Sulfur’ – EP

Starlit Pyre is a relatively new band. The French five-piece band was founded in 2024 and released their first EP. Titled “Veins of Sulfur”, this four-track release sees the band draw inspiration from both Gothenburg.

Starlit Pyre are clearly inspired by the melodic death metal that originated in the second largest city in Sweden. Bands such as Dark Tranquillity and In Flames have undoubtedly influenced the sound of these five musicians.

The second song, ‘Solar Rays’, follows the same principle, and the occasional blackened moment does little to deviate from the band’s musical compass. The massive title track is a wild wrecking ball on this debut release, followed by ‘On My Own’, which heralds the end of the EP.

‘Veins of Sulfur” is a powerful and fierce debut EP, and is also well produced. At the same time, however, the band sticks very close to its musical idols and offers little that is truly new. Nevertheless, ‘Veins of Sulfur’ is an entertaining EP from a band with potential who need to find their own signature sound.
