Fans of dirty rock’n’roll will be familiar with Crossplane. The four guys from Germany certainly have a passion for the magical sound of Motörhead, which they use as inspiration, and it’s the vocals of Marcel Celli Mönnig that show some parallels to Lemmy. Rough and a bit hoarse, the frontman brings a raw expression to each of the songs and listening to tracks like the opener “Rocker” shows what to expect from the band’s latest effort. “Rocker” is what the title says. It is a blasting hard rock tune with edges and built on the spirit of rock’n’roll. Mainstream couldn’t be further from what comes out of the speakers.
Lyrically, the album deals with the darker sides of life, with frontman Mönnig addressing the monsters of his childhood and its personal effects. So, with all the heavy rock’n’roll thunder, the unpolished life story is what makes this release an authentic piece of rock’n’roll. It’s the scars, the ups and the downs that define the individual, and that leads to some thunderous rock songs for “Mother’s Monster”.
And just like life has its edges, the latest Crossplane record has some sharp musical ones. These songs show some dirt under the fingernails and the fact that the band adds “Sweep Away the Dirt”, a song with some punk references, demonstrates the broader approach to energetic rock music. What underlines the grooving dynamics is the sound of “Mother’s Monster”. The album was produced by none other than Waldemar Sorychta, which speaks a clear language when it comes to the band and the sound of the album.
“Mother’s Monster” is a smashing rock album and fans of bands like Motörhead should definitely check out what this band from the “Ruhrpott” has to offer.
