Review DEMON HEAD “Through Holes Shine the Stars”

Denmark in general and Copenhagen in particular have a pretty vibrant music scene, and one of the bands that call the Danish capital home is Demon Head. The band was formed in 2012 and released their first album “Ride the Wilderness” in 2015.

Demon Head’s sound is an exciting fusion of different genres and styles. Hard rock feeds the music of the five-piece, as well as some gothic vibes and a psychedelic expression.

Demon Head create dark and melancholic sound structures that are far beyond the mainstream. There are constant twists and unexpected turns that take the listener on a colorful journey through the realms of melancholy. Listen to the multi-layered “Deeper Blades” and the dramatic “Every Flatworm” to get an idea of the sound of the Danes.

Nothing on “Through Holes Shine the Stars” is light-hearted and easy going. Each of the songs puts a certain weight on your soul and yet it never gets depressing. There are always a few musical sunrises that can be experienced while paying attention to the music on “Through Holes Shine the Stars”. It’s the melodies that connect you to the songs, while it takes time and effort to explore the depths that are also integrated, even in the more straightforward “Draw Down the Sky”, which is a galloping and dark rocker with unexpected flashes.

“Through Holes Shine the Stars” is a very interesting album with music that may not blossom right away. However, each of the songs unfolds its dark magic after a while, and if you decide to invest some time in these eight vessels of darkness, you will be rewarded with some musical treats.
