Review DEATH RAY VISION ‘No Mercy From Electric Eyes’

Massachusettes-based Death Ray Vision unleash their third studio album called ‘No Mercy from Electric Eyes’, a 12-song featuring longplayer with a lot of punching power. The band started in 2010 and three years later the debut ‘We Ain’t Leavin’ Till You’re Bleeding’. The guys are rooted in hardcore and punk but always have been open to other genres too.

The newest release is also the first album with the band’ new singer Keith Bennett who is obviously a great extra for the sound of the band. Death Ray Vision is a band with a lot of street credibility and Bennett fits perfectly into this context, also because he doesn’t only sing the lyrics but also add an identity to the words sung. Authenticity, that is what Bennett brings to the plate.

‘No Mercy From Electric Eyes’ is a raging album that, as mentioned, has its roots in hardcore, which comes to surface more than once. The massive ‘An Iron Age’ reflects the foundation of the five-piece band in a great fashion and also ‘Premature Evisceration’ clarifies where the band comes from.

At the same time some metallic elements sneaked into a few songs. ‘From the Rafters’, a condemnation of police brutality, brings some thrash metal moments to the forefront, especially at the galloping beginning of the tune. ‘Reaper’ also entails some more traditional metal elements, all mixed with furious hardcore roots. The latter are dominant again with ‘Broken Hands of God’ while ‘Crawl Forth the Cowards’ is a slowly rolling track with a surprisingly melodic chorus.

Full-octane rock, that’s what’s woven into heavy pounding ‘Armageddon is the Answer’, adding another spice to the mix.

‘No Mercy From Electric Eyes’ is a furious and powerful album. Since Death Ray Vision constantly add a slightly new direction to their musical imprint, things stay exciting over time.
