Review CREEPING DEATH ‘Boundless Domain’

Denton, Texas is the homebase of a band called Creeping Death. The formation started back in 2015 and released with ‘Wretched Illusions’ a rather astonishing debut album. The following EP, entitled ‘The Edge of Existence’ was equally powerful and now it’s the right moment for unleashing the untamed next records.

‘Boundless Domain’ is the title of a ruthless album with a lot of embedded evil. Massive and slo-mo riffs, like in ‘The Parthian Shot’ meet brute growls, already reflected in the title track that at the same time is the first track one the album. After a calmer intro it is frontman Reese Alavi who shakes you up with a bloodcurdling growl before a massive storm takes over.

Firing on all cylinders, that is ‘Cursed’ which boils down the sound of the band to its essence. Compromises isn’t what the band is looking for while these tracks hit you like a sledgehammer. However, with all the aggressiveness each of the songs has also filigree solo parts and leads which show, that Creeping Death is more than just a merciless death metal machine. It’s songs like ‘Cursed’ that also reflect some hardcore references which are subtle mixed into this grooving death metal machine.

‘Boundless Domain’ is like a volcano this constantly spitting hot lava. It is the same level of destructive power as what Creeping Death offer through songs like the massive ‘Looming’. Raging moments is what the ultra-aggressive ‘The Common Breed’ has in the offer while well-place tempo breaks provide welcomed twists and distraction. Those alternation help Creeping Death to create a versatile but constant level of heaviness.

The thundering ‘The Edge of Existence’ is the final blast in this hellish longplayer, spiced up with some slayer-esque leads. Creeping Death show with ‘Boundless Domain’ that the attention they created with the first two releases wasn’t a flash in the pan. This quintet has enough substance to establish themselves in a genre that doesn’t leave too much room for innovation.
