Review MYTHOSHERE ‘Pathological’

Mythosphere is a new band with familiar faces. Member of Bezzlefuzz, Fates Warning and Pale Divine have teamed up to make some music together. The result is an album that should be well received in epic metal communities.

Mythosphere are Dana Ortt, Victor Arduini, Ron McGinnis and Darin McCloskey. The quartet combines traditional heavy metal with epic melodies and a good portion of progressive rock. This mix may not be completely new, but it is presented in an extremely good way on ‘Pathological’. Since the band also prefers rather the slow rhythms, songs like ‘For No Other Eye’ additionally feature a doom-like vibe.

However, it starts with the atmospheric and almost cinematic ‘Ashen Throne’. This basic approach, together with the hard riffs, makes the song a nice little highlight at the beginning of this well-done disc.

The title track is another song which one should listen to. Dragging rhythms start ‘Pathological’ before a tempo change leads to a blistering solo part. The song shows both, the class of the musicians and the gift of being able to write really good songs. And that one is sometimes reminded of Fates Warning is certainly not a negative feature of this record.

Galloping and with a certain Sabbathian expression ‘No Halo’ thunders out of the boxes. In addition, the track is also equipped with very fine vocal lines, which makes ‘No Halo’ a snappy metal track.

Mythosphere have with ‘Pathological’ created a superb debut album, which metal traditionalists should not miss.
