Review STEPFATHER FRED ‘Like The Sea – Constantly Moving, Constantly Drowning’

The new album of Stepfather Fred is certainly a serious candidate for the award ‘longest album title of the year’. ‘Like The Sea – Constantly Moving, Constantly Drowning’, that’s the name the four guys use for presenting their sixth album to the public.
Musically, not much has changed with Stepfather Fred. Heavy alternative rock is still what drives the guys and on their new album they express this passion thirteen times – that’s how many songs are on the tracklist.

Like the previous albums, ‘Like The Sea – Constantly Moving, Constantly Drowning’ is wild and untamed. Even if songs like ‘I am the Sea’ has some calmer moments, these tracks always have a relatively wild sidekick too. Only ‘Unconditional Love’ forgoes the usual harshness and impresses with a bluesy feel and the smoky vocals of frontman Sebastian Schuster.

‘Like The Sea – Constantly Moving, Constantly Drowning’ is certainly the most mature album of Stepfather Fred, which is also reflected in songs like ‘Circles’. Roaring guitars skillfully alternate with calmer moments, elements that support each other and are good for song as well as album.

Even if Stepfather Fred has been missing the big attention so far, ‘Like The Sea – Constantly Moving, Constantly Drowning’ proves again that it can’t be because of the music. This album is a treat and one can already look forward to future live performances.
