Review THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA ‘Aeromantic II’

It still feels a bit like The Night Flight Orchestra being a project with some releases in the ‘having achieved’-column and there might not have been plans in the beginning to make The Night Flight Orchestra to a long-lasting provider of excellent melodic hard rock. Things developed over time and in the meantime the band added ten years to the books and can refer to five longplayers of which the third album, ‘Amber Galactic’, the stepstone for reaching a much wider community.

These days album number six will hit the shelves. ‘Aeromantic II’ is the continuation of the previous longplayer and features 12 songs tracklist. As on the previous longplayers The Night Flight Orchestra boost the revitalization of 70s and 80s rock, music that is harder rocking and at the same time puts catchiness and melodies in focus. Songs like ‘You Belong to the Night’ have even a pop appeal and it’s almost impossible to not like this track.

A song that refers to the ‘Amber Galactic’-days is ‘Amber Through a Window’. Melodies are still in the forefront although the songs show some more twists and tweaks compared with some other catchy anthems on ‘Aeromantic II’. The Night Flight Orchestra stick to their trademarks and at the same time explore enough space to vary within the frame of 70s-oriented hard rock. A stunning track on the album is ‘White Jeans’, having been released as single already. The tune is driven by a strong groove and a galloping rhythm. Keyboards add density to a song that is a perfect soundtrack for your next party.

The Night Flight Orchestra doesn’t change their route, nor they adjust the direction. Captain and crew solidly steer their rock’n’roll airplane through a time that is far away from ‘normal’ and they do it in a joyful fashion. In a time when joy was and is so hard to come by, it’s albums like ‘Aeromantic II’ that adds positivism and fun to the plate, something we all heavily need.
