Review THE QUIREBOYS ‘A Bit of What You Fancy – 30th Anniversary Edition’

It was in 1984 when a bunch of young musicians started a band which started das The Queerboys and later renamed the band that became The Quireboys. Opening for bands like Guns’n’Roses and Yngwie Malmsteen was a step-stone for The Quireboys to ink a deal with EMI Records who release the debut album ‚A Bit of What You Fancy‘.

The Quireboys‘ first record was and still is a blast. Rhythm and blues, combined with traditional hard rock, these are the dominate styles that describe the sound of the band at the time best. It’s a thrilling combination of rocking tunes and intense songs like ‚Whippin’ Boy’, that unfold their greatness right away. Good vibe music doesn’t come short either. The opener ‘7 O’Clock’ and tracks like ‘Sex Party’ are good vibe rockers and the same goes for ‘Hey You’. Last but not least, there is a lot of feel that comes with songs like ‘Roses and Rings’.

The debut has been released 30 years ago and the band wanted to celebrate this milestone. Therefor Spike and band mates re-recorded the timeless first album and released it as A Bit of What You Fancy – 30th Anniversary Edition. Using the benefits of modern-day recording each of the songs carries the spirit of the 90s and at the same time comes with an extra portion of power. ‘A Bit of What You Fancy’ is a timeless album with exquisite music. In case you missed it 30 years ago, you might want to catch up now.
