Review VHF ‘Very High Frequency’

VHF stands for Vinciguerra, Hoekstra, Franklin, names that resonate very well when it comes to hard rock and metal. Guitar virtuoso Joel Hoekstra is known from his contribution for bands like Whitesnake, Night Ranger and the Trans Siberian Orchestra. Tony Franklin provides a rock solid groove for Kenny Wayne Shepherd and The Firm, not to forget the legendary Blue Murder. Last nut not least there is Todd Vinciguerra, the heartbeat provider behind the drum kit.

These three guys teamed-up and created with ‘Very High Frequency’ a longplayer that will be a treat for fans of highly creative and framework challenging sounds. The creative force behind these seven songs is the drums. It all started there. Every part of this tracklist reflects musical independency and uniquely composed elements. Creative freedom is reflected by these songs that in the end still fit together very well.

‘Very High Frequency’ is mainly an instrumental album that features with the layered and heavier ‘Suspended Animation’ also a track that includes some vocals. Those are looked at more as an additional musical twist the amplifies the instrumental creativity.

Based on the ways of working, each of these songs has an own expression and provides music that demands time. The creativity and the various layers and turn ask attention and a focus from the listener. It’s a challenging album more than an easy-going musical experience. ‘Very High Frequency’ will be not a chart-breaking album that reaches the many. It is more of a longplayer that provides a wow-effect for experts and passionists of progressive sounds with a jam session approach in mind. Folks that want to challenge their ears and mind, not shying away from complexity, should check out ‘Very High Frequency’.
