Review SOCIAL DISORDER ‘Love 2 Be Hated’

Let’s start this review with some name-dropping. Tracii Guns, Rudy Sarzo, Jeff Duncan, Snowy Shaw and some more, all these exquisite musicians are part of Social Disorder. The mainman of Social Disorder though is someone else. The project is the brainchild of Swedish-born Anders Rönnblom (Killer Bee, X-Romance and Wolfpakk).

‘Love 2 Be Hatred’ is the first album under the banner of Social Disorder and the beginning of this album was Rönnblom working on first song ideas with his guitar and a metronome app he downloaded on his phone. He took the same approach when it comes to bass and slowly things evolved. Rönnblom found with the talented and rather unknown singer Thomas Nordin a great frontman and the deeper the mainman went into songwriting, the clearer things became. Contacting some of the mentioned musicians was a next step that motivated even more to create an album with a team approach.

‘Love 2 Be Hatred’ is a really cool hard rock album. Ten songs find the right middle-way of heaviness and well-crafted melodies, all spiced up with powerful solos. ‘Down on My Knees’ is one of these smashing hard rock anthems that blossoms right away. The upbeat rocker is great example for Rönnblom’s songwriting capabilities.

The artwork captures the vibe of the album very well. On the one hand, ‘Love 2 Be Hated’ features songs with a darker basic expression of which is reflected in the title track. The opener ‘Windy Roads’ comes with a similar mood and celebrates the blues. Higher paced melodic metal is what ‘Dreaming’ delivers while ‘The One’ brings the gentle and soulful tones to the table. The galloping ‘Wings of Serenity’, with a bit of a Malmsteen-ish approach, rounds off this pretty exciting debut album.

Social Disorder surprises. I can’t tell you if there will be a continuation or not. One thing is certain though, no one that digs excellently done hard rock will hate ‘Love 2 Be Hatred’. In contrary. This album is a vivid and dynamic release that gives you a good time and unfolds its fascination right away.
