‘Deadlights’ is Liar Thief Bandit‘s third longplayer and follows the debut from 2016 and the sophomore publication ‘Straight Ahead’ from 2018. The band, based in Malmö, Sweden dedicated themselves to garage rock, which the trio celebrates on twelve songs on the ‘Deadlights’ album.
I have to admit that I wasn’t familiar with the band and pressed the ‘start’-button with curiosity and excitement. Already the first notes of the opener/title track was a reward and confirmed that it was a good decision to listen to the album. With the energy of a triple espresso, the trio rocks through 41 minutes and the lively vibe is infectious. Even if you have or had a bad day, these songs get you in a good mood.
‘Deadlights’ is a smoothly rocking album. There are no lengthy moments or passages of boredom on this album and there is nothing ‘dead’ on the album more than the word in the title. In contrary. Album number three from Liar Thief Bandit is a vivid one that puts the beauty of raw rock’n’roll into the center. What amplifies the good impression is the powerful sound that still includes some edges without being muddy or undifferentiated.
Liar Thief Bandit is a band that will stay on my musical radar and their third album is a longplayer that will get a few more spins over the coming months. If you missed the band so far, as I did, check it out now. And if you are a fan, ‘Deadlights’ will deliver to expectations.
