Corrosion of Conformity, Motörhead, The Doors, Metal Church, and Down, these are the bands mentioned as influences for Sea Of Snakes and already the opener ‘Let the Fire Burn’ confirms what the label info promises.
Sea Of Snakes, that is Jeff Murray, Mike Coffman, Jim McCloskey and Tracy Steiger. The quartet calls Los Angeles, California their homebase and after having been active as Motorsickle for a couple of years, the band got a new name, Sea Of Snakes.
‘World on Fire’ is the title of their first EP and features five songs. The mentioned ‘Let the Fire Burn’ is the opener and a stronger C.O.C. reference is undeniable. The song is a great start into the album and finds with ‘Son of Man’ a perfect buddy. The latter is a slow and sweaty riff monster that’s roasted under the Californian sun.
With five minutes playing time ‘Fear Behind the Stare’ is the longest tune on this EP. The beginning is calm and spreads an ease, like a sunset announcing a next hot day. Riffs and Steiger’s raspy vocals take over step by step and transfer the song into a stoner rock based riff feast that shows again the influences of C.O.C.. It’s up to the slow and hard-hitting ‘Drink Your Teeth’ the finish off an EP that sounds pretty cool. Fans of the mentioned bands should certainly check out this refreshing EP.
