Norway’s flagship glam rockers Wig Wam had their first creative era from 2001-2014 before they decided to disband as a band. One of the highlights of the quartet during this time was certainly their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, where they represented their home country Norway and achieved a respectable ninth place.
After the band threw in the towel in the ring in 2014, it took six years until we can report a reunion, which also brings a new album to the plate. Meaningfully, the record is named ‘Never Say Die’, which can certainly also be referred to the comeback album.
As in earlier days Wig Wam celebrate melodic hard rock. Sometimes a little metal shines through, but in general it’s the catchy melodies that make ‘Never Say Die’ a very entertaining disc. Tracks like the powerful ‘Hypnotized’ are easy to listen to and are little ear candy. The grooving ‘Shadows of Eternity’ also belongs to this category and rocks smoothly but energetic.
Wig Wam stay true to their standard formula without sounding boring. ‘Where Does it Hurt’ and ‘Call of the Wild’ are cool rock songs too with hooklines that will not leave anyone cold. With ‘Silver Lining’ Wig Wam have put the longest song at the end. The closing track on this album starts slow and rather quiet, a bit Beatles-esque. The song is certainly a well done final act which shows the potential of Wig Wam.
All those of you who are not shy of a good melody line should give ‘Never Say Die’ a listen. You might like it 🙂 At least I do.
