CD review SKELETHAL ‘Unveiling the Threshold’

Skelethal, that stands for brutal death metal since 2012. The guys, based in Lille (France) released a split and two EP’s before they debuted with ‘Of the Depths…’ in 2017.

Three years went by before Skelethal brought their furious sophomore album ‘Uveiling the Threshold’ to the record stores. At the end of November the time had finally come. The new record is available on the shelves and offers brute but also technically sophisticated oldschool death metal. Rooted in the depths of Swedish death metal abyss, Skelethal do a great job of firing up the fans. The four guys bring everything to the point in 37 minutes. This album has no length and does not bother with redundant fillers. Songs like the powerful ‘Antropomorphia’ are a prime example of aggressive death metal with elegant soloing and blood-curdling riff acrobatics. ‘Unveiling the Threshold’ hits you like a punch in the face.

With all this in mind it should be mentioned that Skelethal have with ‘Cave Dweller’ a raging two minute piece on the album, but feel also very comfortable in the 5-7 minute realms. The firing closing, ‘Abyssal Church … The Portal Revealed’, stretches over an epic seven minutes and shows the entire songwriting qualities of the band.

‘Unveiling the Threshold’ is a stellar second album from a band that will surely be with us for quite a while. And that is certainly good news.
