Live report SACRED REICH & NIGHT DEMON, Gebr. de Nobel, Leiden – 06.12.2019

It’s a grey and rainy day in December that welcomes Thrash Metal veterans Sacred Reich in The Netherlands. Despite or even for this very reason a lot of Dutch Metal fans found their way to Leiden, looking forward to an evening with music that challenges everyone’s neck muscles.

Next to Sacred Reich it is no less than Night Demon being on stage too. Jarvis Leatherby and band mates are a whirlwind as soon as they enter the stage. There is no warm-up or time to prepare. The first riffs of ‘Night Demon’ are like a hit into your face. Night Demon on stage, that’s like driving a speedster without breaks. Therefore positive reactions aren’t be long in coming. The trio from Ventura, California turns the venue into a madhouse and regardless which song they play and from which record those are taken from, the front row goes crazy. After 50 minutes things come to an end with a surprise. The usually closer ‘Night Demon’ went to pool position and now we know why. Night Demon plays an ultra-fast version of Golden Earrings ‘Radar Lover’ and no doubt, this was much appreciated.

The trio from California put the bar quite high for the main act, but Phil Rind & Co. have enough experience and smashing Metal songs as ammunition to fire even harder. Sacred Reich put the focal point on two longplayers. First of all it’s the very well done latest release ‘Awakening’ that’s present with 5 songs with ‘Divide & Conquer’ being the first Thrash Metal attack tonight. ‘The American Way’ is the next blast, representing Sacred Reich’s most important release.

Sacred Reich, that’s no frills and decoration. These guys let the music do the job and with having song like ‘Surf Nicaragua’ and ‘Death Squad’ in their repertoire the endeavor is a successful one. The bigger room at Gebr. de Nobel goes wild and the temperature rises with each song played. Especially when ‘Surf Nicaragua’ strikes up metalheads go crazy.

And the band enjoys themselves too. Phil Rind has a constant smile on his face, Wiley Arnett plays blistering solos right in front of fans, the 23 years old Joey Radziwill is as much headbanging as he fires riffs into the crowd and last but not least it’s Dave McClain being the the powerful rhythm engine. Sacred Reich in 2019 is at least as strong as in the late eighties. New and old songs create a seamless experience but it’s mainly the joy and hunger for Metal that drives the quartet to new highs, making the new era to a great one for everybody.

Sacred Reich and Night Demon, that’s a package that shows that Metal is independent from age. It’s about having the right spirit and mindset. It’s about passion for what you’re doing, something that both bands have very much in common. This package is a breath-taking one and you shouldn’t miss it.
