CD review BLOOD EAGLE ‘To Ride in Blood & Bathe in Greed – Part II’ (EP)

(8/10) If former members of bands like Volbeat, Mnemic, Hatesphere, Illdisposed and Raunchy unit, you can be sure that their collaboration leads to a musical monster that’s heavy and brutal.

Blood Eagle is the brainchild of Franz Hellboss and Gabriel Eftemie who wanted to have an outlet for their passion for Death Metal. A first EP has been released in 2013 and since then fans had to wait for some new material.

Instead of releasing a full-length album the new release is split into three EP’s of which the first one has been released in September this year. A few weeks later it’s the second chapter that keeps the flow alive and here it is.

The four songs on this EP reflect aggressive Death Metal with a lot of riffpower. Deep grows and vicious riffs are the base of Blood Eagle’s newest musical onslaught.

A mighty mosh part in ‘Doctrine of Death’ is certainly a highlight on this EP although it’s a bit of pity that it fades out. ‘Kill Your Tyrants’ swipes away this thought in a second. The raging track follows ‘Doctrine of Death’ and is fast and merciless. The story’s told in a bit more than minute before ‘For Those Who Remain’ introduces the already the end of ‘To Ride in Blood & Bathe in Greed – part II’. It’s a bit of a pity that the band chose the EP approach since it would have been great to listen to some more songs. It feels like things are over right after having pressed the ‘Play’-button.

Anyhow, adding this release tour personal music collection is certainly no bad idea. Blood Eagle delivers some well-crafted Death Metal that can handle any comparison with some of the genre leaders.

PS: Release date for part III is scheduled for November 22nd
