CD review RIOT V ‘Live in Japan 2018’

(*/10) Metal pioneers Riot V, formerly Riot, are a band that is one of the most under-rated bands in powerful Heavy Metal. The guys are inspiration to so many younger bands are rose to underground legends. Unfortunately the step from underground to the big stage never really happened.

Records like ‘Fire Down Under’ and ‘Born in America’ are timeless discs that never lost their importance for Heavy Metal. Another iconic album was/is ‘Thundersteel’, which was released in 1988. It was the 30th anniversary of this classic that led to a show at Club Citta in Kawasaki in March last year, a concert that included the entire album as a part of the setlist.

A 23 songs comprising live show took place in spring last year in front of enthusiastic Japanese fans. Riot V went back in time, having with ‘Warrior’ from the debut a song that comes from the late ‘70s while it’s the newer tunes like ‘Armor of Light’ that has been performed too. The show bridged the different areas of Riot V and it was the mentioned ‘Thundersteel’ album that has been the centerpiece that night.

Beginning of August it’s AFM records that makes this concert available to everybody as DVD and/or CD. ‘Live in Japan 2018’ is a comprehensive summary of the highlights, written and performed by a band that belongs to the forerunners of Heavy Metal. There is no reason to miss the album
