Review STREAMER “Into the Void”

For a while now, a growing number of Spanish metal bands have been turning their attention back to traditional heavy metal, and Catalonia’s Streamer are happily joining the party. Formed in 2013, the quartet has always had a clear weakness for the sound of the NWOBHM and classic US metal. Their first EP in 2015 already pointed in that direction, and two full-length albums have followed since. Now, album number three is ready to roll: Into the Void.

The album marks Streamer’s debut on High Roller Records, which should put their music in front of a few more metalheads than before. And there is certainly enough here to make that audience stick around. Streamer are not out to reinvent the heavy-metal wheel. In fact, quite a few of the ingredients on Into the Void will sound familiar. But that is hardly the point. What matters is the energy, enthusiasm, and sheer love for the genre packed into these ten tracks. This is music made for turning up loud and letting the record carry you along.

The journey starts with the intro “Almanzor” before moving into the melodic “Never Said Goodbye” and the untamed “Falling Again.” “Wanted Head” then puts the pedal down, keeping the album moving without unnecessary detours. Streamer know when to let the guitars do the talking and when a melody needs room to breathe.

And then there is the closer. The title track “Into the Void” brings the album home, and it also reveals another influence that is hard to miss: Queensrÿche. The riffing carries a distinct touch of that classic US-metal school, adding another shade to Streamer’s otherwise firmly traditional approach.

Into the Void is not an album built around surprises or genre-defying experiments. It does something much simpler — and, in this case, rather effectively. It delivers ten tracks packed with riffs, melody, attitude, and enough energy to keep the speakers working. Streamer know exactly which side of the metal fence they belong on, and they are not looking for the gate.

No reinvention, no gimmicks — just heavy metal with the volume turned up and the pedal down.
