Sixteen years ago, a unique concert concept sparked great enthusiasm among In Extremo fans. Under the title “Tranquilo,” the band presented their songs for the first time in unusually calm, acoustic arrangements, revealing a completely different side of their artistry. The response was overwhelming, and ever since, many fans have been hoping for a continuation of this extraordinary format.
The idea of finally bringing “Tranquilo” back to the stage quickly evolved into something more. Since the first installment, the band’s repertoire has grown tremendously. New classics and live anthems have emerged, other songs haven’t been played in a long time, and some tracks seemed to be just waiting to be completely taken apart and reassembled in a new musical guise. Thus, “Tranquilo II” emerged not only as a special concert program but ultimately also as a new album, set to be released on October 23 via Universal Music. Across a total of 17 songs, In Extremo span more than three decades of their history, blending the authentic essence of their musical artistry with all the musical experiences they’ve gathered along their long journey. This is explicitly not just about playing well-known songs at a lower volume. The songs have been rearranged—in some cases, fundamentally reworked—and embrace styles that one might not necessarily expect to hear from In Extremo at first glance. Swing, rockabilly, ska, and reggae blend with Eastern European influences, centuries-old soundscapes, and the band’s very own musical DNA.
And with “Tranquilo II,” In Extremo is once again heading out on an acoustic tour. Sixteen years after the first installment, a lot has happened. New albums have been released, numerous songs have found their way into the repertoire, and many of them are practically begging to be brought to life in a new, acoustic guise. The fact that the band is taking this step fits perfectly with their self-image. In Extremo have always been known for their willingness to experiment and have earned a reputation for constantly surprising their fans with unusual concert concepts and unique venues. From their early days at medieval markets to major festival and arena shows around the globe, they have repeatedly proven that they view musical boundaries not as limitations, but as invitations.
