ZEAL & ARDOR release “Devil Is Fine x Carpenter Brut”

Zeal & Ardor are releasing a spectacular reinterpretation of what is arguably their best-known song today, “Devil Is Fine x Carpenter Brut,” via MVKA.

French producer Carpenter Brut has taken on the track, giving it a completely new, relentless sound with his unmistakable blend of dark synthesizers, driving beats, and horror aesthetics. Here, two musical worlds collide with full force—and “Devil Is Fine” suddenly sounds darker, more menacing, and more brutal than ever before.

The original song is the title track of Zeal & Ardor’s 2016 debut album Devil Is Fine, with which Manuel Gagneux caused quite a stir at the time. Its unusual and fascinating fusion of the raw aggression of black metal with the rhythms and traditions of African American spirituals and work songs turned Zeal & Ardor into one of the most exciting new bands on the scene practically overnight.

Ten years later, Carpenter Brut – whose horror-film-inspired, synth-driven sound has long since created a musical world all its own – has taken on this groundbreaking song, completely deconstructed it, and reassembled it according to its own rules. The result is a reinterpretation that is as radical as it is fascinating, lending the original a whole new dimension.
