Bobbie Dazzle is the stage name of Siân Greenaway, a name some readers may still associate with Alunah. Greenaway left the band in 2024 and opened a new chapter with Bobbie Dazzle — one that shares little musical DNA with her former outfit.
With Bobbie Dazzle, Greenaway has turned her attention toward glamorous rock with a distinctly retro flavor. Her 2024 debut, Fandabidozi, made it clear that there was plenty more to come, even if the musical direction had changed. Now Star Power arrives as the second chapter, taking us further into Greenaway’s colorful take on glam rock.
Star Power picks up where the debut left off. The galloping title track immediately points toward the 1970s, where the roots of this sound clearly lie. The Sweet, T. Rex, and Slade are obvious reference points, and their influence can still be heard in tracks such as “Dirty Martini,” without turning the album into a simple nostalgia trip.
A closer look at the individual songs reveals plenty of variety. “Jack Rabbit,” for example, starts with gentle piano before shifting gears into a proper rocker. There is something about the arrangement that inevitably brings Queen to mind. “Wonder” adds a disco touch to the glam formula, while “The New Thing” takes things in a more progressive direction, with flute playing a surprisingly important role.
These moments show that Greenaway has expanded the Bobbie Dazzle formula rather than simply repeating what worked on the debut. “Take to the Streets” keeps that approach going, blending several shades of ’70s rock. Once again, Queen comes to mind, particularly when the layered vocals kick in during the chorus.
The album also features “Snakes & Ladders,” co-written by Bobbie Dazzle and Gareth McGrillen of Pendulum. McGrillen also handles bass on the track, which ranks among the more intricate moments on Star Power.
Toward the finish line, the reins come off completely and the speakers get a full dose of rock ’n’ roll. “Planets Collide” and “Feel It Too” are straight-ahead rockers packed with energy, bringing the album to the finish line without overcomplicating things.
Star Power is a colorful and multi-layered record. Firmly rooted in the sound of the ’70s, Bobbie Dazzle combines different influences into a cohesive whole while keeping the project’s identity intact. The result feels less like a trip back in time and more like a modern take on a classic rock vocabulary. The ’70s may be all over Star Power, but this is no museum piece. It is a lively rock album with enough color, groove, and attitude to earn a spot at any properly loud party.
