Review TEMPLE OF DREAD “Dreadspawn Dominion”

Temple Of Dread have firmly established themselves as one of Germany’s leading death metal bands. Hailing from Spiekeroog, one of the East Frisian Islands, the band has been proving since 2017 that outstanding metal doesn’t have to come from major cities only.

Their debut album, Blood Craving Mantras, marked the first step for the five-piece from northern Germany and laid the foundation for an impressive evolution that now continues with Dreadspawn Dominion.

Temple Of Dread are deeply rooted in old-school death metal while also displaying a strong sense for atmosphere. The band combines dense, dark soundscapes with the aggression of classic death metal in a very natural way. “Born to Rot” is a great example of this approach. Crushing riffs and groove-driven passages fuel this neckbreaker, taking over from the blistering title track. Temple Of Dread haven’t lost any of their intensity, but they also show that death metal can offer more than a nonstop wrecking-ball approach. The savage guitar work and Jens Finger’s commanding, barked vocals define much of the album’s sound, while the haunting atmosphere of tracks like “Scorched By Cosmic Fire” gives the record a strong flow.

The band doesn’t rely on speed alone. Clever twists, subtle details, and well-placed tempo changes add variety throughout the album. Holding everything together is a dark and grim atmosphere that creates genuinely memorable moments.

Temple Of Dread approach their music without compromise. Anyone listening to the relentless “Rites of Blasphemy” will immediately recognize that the band remains fully committed to its vision and sound.

Dreadspawn Dominion doesn’t suffer from weak moments. Every track delivers powerful riffs with hammer-like force, and the band performs them with conviction and precision. Supported by a massive production, every song – including the opening instrumental “Wings of Immortality” – hits with impressive impact. This is an album made for headbanging, and strong neck muscles certainly won’t hurt when Dreadspawn Dominion starts spinning on the turntable.
