Review ALLT “Ataraxia”

Hailing from Karlskoga, Sweden, Allt formed in 2020. After releasing a handful of singles and EPs, the band made a strong first impression with their 2024 debut album, From the New World.

Two years later, Ataraxia marks the next chapter in the band’s evolution. Their sophomore effort features nine songs and, with a runtime of just 31 minutes, never outstays its welcome. That said, its concise length doesn’t mean the album lacks substance.

The explosive opener, “New World,” immediately showcases an album filled with energy. Aggressive metalcore passages blend seamlessly with calmer moments, while furious screams alternate with melodic clean vocals. The result is a track that captures many of the elements that define Allt’s sound.

Lyrically, the band has taken a different direction as well. While From the New World centered on societal collapse, survival, and humanity as a whole, Ataraxia turns its focus inward. Instead of exploring a post-apocalyptic landscape, the five Swedish musicians draw from personal experiences. Themes such as exhaustion, loss, relationships, and finding clarity shape the album’s lyrics, giving the songs a more intimate perspective.

The full range of Allt’s signature sound complements these themes and adds emotional weight to them. “Nevermind” is a great example, musically reflecting a sense of inner conflict. Fierce, unrestrained outbursts gradually give way to melodic passages before erupting once again with renewed intensity. Throughout the album, Allt adds plenty of depth to their songwriting. Rather than relying solely on crushing metalcore, each song introduces subtle twists and dynamic shifts that keep the listening experience engaging from start to finish.

Overall, Ataraxia is a layered and well-crafted album that translates the band’s emotional landscape into compelling music. With a powerful sound, strong musicianship, and plenty of intensity, Allt continues to strengthen its place in the modern metalcore scene.
