Review ARROGANZ “Death Doom Punks”

Arroganz is one of Germany’s leading death metal bands. The band started out with an album called “Dark and Deathless”, followed by albums released at regular intervals.

Now, two years after revealing “Quintessenz”, the trio has launched their latest studio effort, “Death Doom Punks”. The record features nine new death metal songs. The album title could not be more fitting, as it perfectly encapsulates what fans can expect from the new offering. With B. being the newest band member, Arroganz has unleashed a lot of raw death metal energy, which resonates through songs such as the blistering opener. “Die For Nothing” is the first sonic wrecking ball of the album, with eight more to follow. Arroganz hammer out brutal riffs, deep growls, and a massive groove, generating a dense wall of sound. With a metal heart beating strongly and an anarchic punk spirit, the band takes a sledgehammer approach to their music, resulting in frantic songs such as the title track. Embedded hoarse screams add an extra dimension to this aggressive song, which features pace changes and a doom-based middle section.

The album contains a pulverising mid-tempo smasher with a grooving factor in the form of “Anarchic Breath”. Roaring riffs and a rebellious attitude are not only the driving force behind “Archaic Breath”, but also fuel the entire album.

A galloping beat pushes “Incubus’ Veins”, followed by “Earth’s Final Dose” and “Spirit Arsonist”. The latter is the album closer, and the bass-driven intro underlines the groove factor of “Death Doom Punks”.

This, the seventh full-length album from Arroganz, showcases a band following their own path. These songs are dense death metal strikes from a band unwilling to compromise. “Death Doom Punks” is a raw and dashing fusion of old-school death metal and a punkish attitude, making for a dense metal release that convinces with its power and attention to detail in each song.
